Summary : Robert Desnos (1900-1945), who perished prematurely in deportation, is considered one of the greatest French poets of the XXth Century. Free in thought, in word and in action Desnos could well be defined as one of the most original artists of his time. An editorial supplement includes a 30’ documentary made by Jean Barral in 1959, “The Beautiful Season is near” with several speakers including André Breton’s unique recorded film interview. In reply to the question “Why do you write?”, Robert Desnos replied “to encourage encounters”! The encounters were prolific.
